Somm Journal for iOS · last updated 24 August 2026
Somm Journal collects nothing. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no servers operated by the developer. Everything you enter stays on your device.
Your tasting entries, ratings, notes, photos, course progress, and settings are written to a database inside the app's own storage on your iPhone. This data is never transmitted anywhere. The developer has no ability to read it.
If you use Settings → Backup, the app produces a file containing your journal and hands it to iOS through the standard share sheet. Where that file goes — Files, iCloud Drive, email, a messaging app — is entirely your choice, and it is then governed by whatever service you sent it to. The developer never receives it.
Separately, if you have iCloud Backup enabled for your iPhone, Apple may include the app's data in your device backup. That is Apple's service under Apple's privacy policy, not ours.
The Full Course unlock is a one-time in-app purchase processed entirely by Apple. Apple tells the app only whether the purchase exists. The developer never receives your name, payment details, or Apple Account information.
There are none. The app contains no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, no crash-reporting service, and no third-party trackers of any kind. Nothing you do in the app is measured or reported.
Somm Journal works fully offline. Its lesson content, grape and region references, and images are bundled in the app itself. The only network activity is Apple's own purchase and restore process, and opening an external link if you tap one.
Somm Journal is rated 17+ because it discusses wine, and is not directed at children. No data is collected from anyone, regardless of age.
Because no personal data is ever collected or transmitted, there is nothing held about you to access, correct, export, or delete. You can remove all app data at any time by deleting the app from your device. Backup files you created are yours to delete wherever you saved them.
If a future version of the app ever collects data, this policy will be updated before that version is released, and the change will be described in the app's release notes and in its App Store privacy details.
